Halloween is when ghosts and ghouls come alive, where horror and creativity come into play. In the months following the spooky holiday, commotion starts going out about “what should I be this year?” Instantly, people start popping out ideas and scrolling through Pinterest and TikTok.
Some costumes get overused more than others, and things just start getting unoriginal. Every year, I see people wear overused costumes, either couples’ or singular costumes. Here are the 10 costumes I do not want to see this Halloween season.
Lola Bunny and Bugs Bunny costumes
This costume just gets used every Halloween season and it is starting to get unoriginal because it is the same-looking costume, specifically the Space Jam jerseys.
Any type of seductive nurse/nun
This costume is already a woman-dominated field and just sexualizes the people who do nothing but care for others. If you wear any type of outfit like this it makes it seem like you’re glorifying the sexualising of female-dominated occupations.
Barbie, We all saw the new Barbie but why should we just dress up as that Barbie which is called stereotypical Barbie? If you want to do this costume I suggest you do a different scene in the movie where she wears a different color or a completely different Barbie movie.
Inflatables
Any type of inflatable starts getting obnoxious after a while and it starts to become a mess if you have multiple inflatables in the same place. For example, in our school, we can dress up for Halloween and most people bring out their best costumes but others not so much. I feel like if you buy an inflatable costume it makes it look very lazy and it shows that you really didn’t put any effort into your costume so might as well not buy one at all.
Harley Quinn and The Joker
The duo that we all know for being a little more than crazy. This costume specifically glorifies the abusive relationship between the two. Not only does this costume try to justify abusive relationships but also the mental abuse that both men and women go through.
Ghostface
A slasher who’s most notable for his face mask that is passed on for years on end. Well, it should stop this year. We should all move on from the basic black rags with the mask because the only thing they cover is the unoriginality of the costume.
The Purge
We all know this classic Halloween costume that teens wear on their first Halloween as middle schoolers. This costume just isn’t very put together. All you have on is regular clothes with blood and a mask.
Remy and Linguini
His costume is one of the iconic choices that all couples pick. But then every Halloween you see so many couples dress up as them. I think an alternative for this costume would be a chef and some sort of play on words. For example, Chef’s Kiss and French Kiss is a costume where you would dress up as a chef and be covered in kisses.
Clowns
The rise of fame began in 2016 and has since now taken the world by storm. But this costume is not a well-thought-out costume: the reason being that it’s just not a creative costume and doesn’t involve any type of creativity. Even if you try to make it different it’s already been done by someone else.
Wednesday Addams
The Wednesday show took the world by storm and revived so many fans of the original show while also creating new ones. But once a new show releases you’re just going to keep seeing the same costume everywhere and that is what makes a costume so boring.
