Snowdays are some of the most memorable things in our student lives, especially in Texas. The falling snow, chilly temperatures, and, best of all, NO SCHOOL! But as many beautiful things do, this wonderland comes with some downsides. So, here are a few:
- Ice
Bring your skates because due to flash freezing, everything is your personal skating rink. 24 percent of weather-related vehicle crashes occur due to icy conditions.
2. Power outages
The cold is fun… when you’re in a heated home. Power outages can knock out that heater and leave your home slowly slipping in temperature. It’s good to note that houses were made for heat to escape. So you will not have a fun time when that heater turns off.
Texas has its fair share of “snow days” but the worst of the batch was “Snowmageddon” in 2021. Snowmageddon was the first BILLION-dollar weather event in 2021, by February 20th, the great Texas freeze set record after record. So next time you underestimate that top layer of snow, think of the layer of ice lurking below.
