Time goes by fast. I feel so excited, yet so sad. Unfortunately, I know this will be the last time we see each other, but it’s also the moment we’ve all been waiting for. Senior friends’ last day to be in high school, or boyfriends, girlfriends, teachers, best friends, who can move away or do homeschooling. From the moment we stepped into our first classroom, we waited to meet that first friend who would be around for way longer than we would have ever imagined. We waited to receive that first report card… and debated if we should hide it from our parents in some cases.
We waited for the first day of middle school, which seemed so scary. Then you make it to your first day of high school and take in those Friday night football games. Among so many things, we’ve waited to have school finish with the days when we were confused, mad, upset, sad, and losing motivation to come to school. As little kids, something like that seemed so far-fetched, but now it’s a reality, it’s a reality that we deserve. Throughout these long months, with every student in San Marcos High School, we all have been through teacher strikes, a worldwide pandemic, a schoolwide hacker, among many other things, yet somehow we all came out of it on the brighter side.
As I’m writing this for my senior friends or friends that are moving away, I don’t always take in the moments and cherish them as they are happening. I think everyone took high school for granted just a little bit, which made me reflect on how much high school has changed me.
To the lower-classmen…
Every little thing from these past months has taught me lessons that I will use for the rest of my life. I realized that waking up before 8 AM wasn’t so bad. After all, waking up came with great relationships, report cards, and test grades that made you internally proud. Waking up before 8 am was worth the joy that almost everyone was blessed with by all of everybody in SMHS. As an incoming junior, the best advice I can give to all the lower-classmen is not to wait so much anymore. Soak in the time while we still have it. Don’t wait until all the good times are just good memories. Enjoy it all now, so I hope these years or months or days or weeks mean something to you.
To the Seniors…
Congratulations, graduates!
