Fortnite has captivated millions since its launch in 2017. For 7 years, players have immersed themselves in its vibrant world. However it is clear that in recent months, participation in the game has been declining. In the beginning, Fortnite stood out as a groundbreaking game that united hundreds of players in a battle royale. Igniting a genre that would become prominent over the next several years.
This style of arena attracted dedicated players, the “OGs” of Fortnite, who would earn fame and respect from the community that will come. The first season of Fortnite marked its ascend to what would be known as the best game for years, a time where players from all across the skill spectrum come together and try to grasp the game’s mechanics. Many of the players crossed over from other shooter games such as Call Of Duty or Halo. This was when the game was at its fairest and trying to exploit the game was easy but also challenging. It was easy because, as a new game, it was open to bugs, such as the double pump mechanic, which lingered until 2018.
Yet it was hard due to its solid foundation as a survival game turned battle royale. These complications contributed to the growth of the game, making Fortnite more engaging. As months turned into a year, the developers introduced exciting new additions, throwing Fortnite into an all new height. During season seven the game remained largely free from money-grubbing schemes. Memorable events such as marshmallow, and Travis Scott concerts added diversity to the gameplay, allowing players to enjoy more than the battle royale mode.
The Thanos event, inspired by the Marvel movie, allowed players to assume control of the mad titan himself. A mode called “food fight” dividing one-hundred people into two teams that fought to protect their main base. I found myself playing this game mode for hours, without getting bored. while other game modes were introduced during this era, but most failed to reach the same excitement. Unfortunately after season 7, Fortnite started a downward spiral.
The diverse game modes disappeared, replaced with cheap money grabs that quickly became tiresome. The game’s focus shifted towards incorporating expensive skins modeled after famous figures, and these schemes persist to this day. Fortnite, once a giant in the gaming industry. Has been on a steady decline for the past years. I would rate it two and a half stars as it continues to lose its former glory.
