The interviewed- Brinkley Reeves
Brinkley Reeves is a student-athlete at San Marcos High School. She has been a part of the volleyball team since her freshman year. On September 29th Brinkley hit her 1,000th kill at the varsity game against Judson High School.
Brinkley has been playing since she was in 2nd grade up until 4th.
“I played at the Activity Center 2nd-4th grade then started playing club from there”
She was inspired to play volleyball by her ability to play.
“Out of all the sports I did, that was the one I was best at, so I just stuck with it.”
When she first started playing volleyball, her position was a hitter. She felt it was the right position for her height.
“I was always pretty tall so it just made sense, but if I could change my position I would definitely want to be a setter or a libero.”
As she hit her 1,000th kill, it all felt monumental to her. The team was more than happy for her.
“ It all felt new. Everyone on the team knew which one it was going to be but it felt really new, really nice, and just encouraging.”
The next goal for her is to improve her vertical and get ready for next season.
“Jumping higher and it is a goal of mine to go division 1 for college.”
Brinkley encourages younger athletes to always put in the work and don’t expect to be the best just by doing what you’re told.
“Put in work in and outside of school, if you plan on playing in high school you have to work you can’t just do what everyone else around you is doing”
Her motivation comes from her parents, she wants to succeed for them.
“My parents and i’m also very competitive, and just the goal of wanting to play in college is encouraging to me.”
“Rich Baby Daddy by Drake Featuring Sexyy Red and SZA”
Is a song that has given Brinkley motivation for the season. Its given her strength to reach her goal and the ones that are upcoming.
