MORNING & AFTERNOON
Tutorials can help students and/or teachers at San Marcos High School in many ways.
“A class period that is dedicated to tutorials would be nice for students and myself,” said Ricky Daniels.
At San Marcos High School (SMHS), the students and teachers are given a tutorial time that starts at 7:45- 8:30 in the morning. The afternoon times for tutorials are 4:20 to 5:00. Sometimes there isn’t even a time because we are not organized. We need a more organized system.
If a student were to want to attend tutorials for the morning, they would need to ask a teacher for a pass. I am a student who attends SMHS and I myself cannot attend morning or afternoon tutorials. Some students aren’t able to attend because of personal reasons.
“Yes, having tutorials during the day would be better for those students who cannot make it to the morning or after-school tutorials,” said Kristian Cogdill.
I feel like we should have a class time during the day that is dedicated to tutorials. Students would better benefit from having a tutorial period during the day.
Tutorial Percentage Rates
When I went around talking to my fellow peers and some of SMHS’s teachers, I got some very good intake.
“Tutorials are very helpful when taken seriously.” Said Ricky Daniels “It should be used for extra help not for the students to make up work.”
It has been proven that tutoring, face-to-face tutorials, and tutorials in general have increased test scores.
“A study conducted by the San Bernadino Valley College showed that students who receive face-to-face tutoring classes see an average increase of 12% in their standardized test.” said Total Education Solutions (TES Therapy) “They have also been shown to outperform untutored peers across 45 out of 52 academic subjects, including math, biology, computer science, and chemistry.”
Having tutorials is very beneficial to students and teachers. How can we help ourselves at SMHS become more academically successful? I believe that we should have a class period dedicated to tutorials.
“I enjoy having morning and afternoon tutoring sessions but I would also appreciate having a tutoring session during the day.” said an SMHS student*.
